I’ve been riding for over forty years. Beater bikes, classy Belgian racing bikes, bikes I’ve found for $20; all of it. Every time I get on a bike, it transforms me and I’m free. The wind’s in my hair, my cheeks get flushed, people smiling and I smile back. Sure, there have been some crashes, some road rash but hey, we like to crash. It’s part of the charm of being a cyclist. But, I gotta tell you, there’s nothing that even comes close to descending the side of a mountain going 40 mph, riding the American River Bike Trail in the fall when the leaves are changing, or hooking up with friends for breakfast and a long ride. I wouldn’t change my time on a bike for anything.
