I started riding when I moved back to Gainesville, FL and started again when I went back to college. I got a Schwinn La Tour and almost from the onset started upgrading it. I raced in the First Sunshine Games held in Gainesville. I taught myself bicycle repair and got proficient in wheel building. In 2001, I purchased a 1988 Cannonade Criterium 53cm I started upgrading it to Suntour Superbe Pro. I rode it until 2014 when after finishing Cancer surgery and radiation I got a new bike a Scott CR1 and again began to up grade to SRAM Red. Just after riding my forth MS150 I will turn 71 and still ride close to 100 miles a week. I am now learning the challenge of riding with sight in only one eye, so I have mirrors on both bar ends. I feel that all my cycling has kept in the good health I now experience. I am within 10lbs of my high school graduation weight. I look at most of the people my age and see it as a way to help many overweight people and am so glad I’m not one of them. I ride with a Road ID and try to sign up everyone I meet. I push for bicycle safety. I try to educate automobile drivers that we do have the right to the road per Florida Law.
