Blue Fenders, a horn with red button & coaster brakes
Cynthia N. – Moscow, ID
In Tonawanda NY, I rode my first bicycle, a Shelby, blue, with shiny Blue fenders, a girls bike with a battery-pwered horn in the downtube area with a red push button. It also had a headlight, chain guard and coaster brakes. I was about 8 years old and it was kinda big for me. I had to start with training wheels, but I have a picture of me in my Easter Sunday best, bonnet and all, riding down my street. My dad took the picture of me headon. That was in about 1954. I’ve ridden bikes intermittently since then, but my husband & i now have folding Bromptons, a Bike Friday Tandem, Cannondale Road Bikes and Trek Mountain Bikes. We’re in our 60s and we still love cycling. I loved that Shelby!! And since then, a bicycle has always meant freedom and adventure to me.
