Biking with my sister.
Maricela Rodriguez – Las Vegas, NV
It all started out in my little neighborhood in Battle Mountain, NV on 2nd street. Me and my sister Alma would bike on the road in front of our home. We would go from corner to corner, then as we got older we got braver and braver, which meant we were now going "around the whole block". Haha. We had big family and lots of chores, so when we could do fun stuff, we chose to bike. I felt it was a mini vacation from our hectic life at home. My favorite time was the summer nights. Not only was the air warm and fresh, but we felt wild and free, until we would hear moms faint voice, Maricelllllllllllllllllllllllllllaaaaaa…., Almaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. As our heart raced so did our legs, we needed to get back fast.
Thinking about those days make me smile and I think about the special bond I had with my sister.
As I got older I stop riding my bike, I was more focused on boys, school, work and food. At this point of my life I was close to weighing 190lbs. Even though I wasn't very active I enjoyed watching the Tour de France and all sports. Around this same time I moved to San Fransisco for work, I was definitely wowed by how many people biked there. They biked to work , school, and up those big hills. I then bought myself a Gary Fisher, I started up them hills one pedal at a time. I thought I'd never make it up. Whoo hoo I was on my way, once again. As I flew down those hills, I laughed from the rush, it made me think of my sister and me.
I then moved to Lake Tahoe , biked, hiked and traveled. Through a co-worker I met my now Fianc?. Now he is an animal.! He bikes century's (100mile + bike rides) he definitely inspired me to save for my first road bike. When I was finally ready to buy my first Canondale, josh was so excited for me that he bought me my Bike. That's was awesome of him, thanks honey.
Since then I've rode many many miles. I did my first sprint triathlon in San diego 2010, then a 40 miler bike challenge with a group of girls. This past year I did three sprint triathlons and a 75 mile bike ride. I love my bike, my sister for our fun memories and for always being with me on my tough rides, even though she probably never knew it and my boyfriend for Stella.
