A Bicycle Wedding
Lee Ann Ratzlaff – Albuquerque, NM
I moved to Albuquerque from Portland, OR in 2010 to get a master's in family studies. I love the weather here, it's sunny 300+ days a year, and I started cycling every day. I met my husband through mutual friends, and we spent almost all of our first dates riding bikes – and drinking beer. He had lived without a car for years, and I sold my station wagon after we decided to just bike in the city and get a (not running) off-road vehicle (to slowly work on) instead. He makes me try harder, ride faster, and get stronger. After dating for almost a year, we got engaged, and I started planning a bicyle themed wedding. We got married in the mountains, surrounded by trees and our loved ones. We still bike every day, and it's been about six months living carfree. I have always loved riding my bike, but now it's a part of my identity, because it brought me and my husband together.
