25 Years with NFBC bicycling around Western NY
Lorraine Harf – Depew, NY
Joined the Niagara Frontier Bicycle Club when I was around 50yrs old for exercise. I live alone, my children grown and married and needed some new friends. I first went out every weekend to ride not knowing what I was getting into with hills, valleys, long 45-50 mile and 15-25 mile days. I have managed over the 25 years to accumulate 56,400 miles to my name, bicycling with the club all overt Western NY, Italy, Tuscany, the Dordong Region of France, New England, around the Great Lakes, South to Virginia and Tennessee and upper New York State.
At my age, I’m still bicycling. Last season (2015) I biked 1,800 miles. I love the sport, getting up in the morning, when the season starts and now that I’m retired, at I’m out the door at 11am to ride 25 miles to breakfast and progressing to 9am or taking an evening ride for the same amount of miles. Starting out at 11 mph and hoping by the end of the season to be riding 16-17 mph. I love being outdoors on farm roads and taking trips with the club.
